By its 50 years experience in the artistic marble working, the A.M.A. workshop offers stages of artistic marble sculptures with qualified tutors and a series of interesting collateral activities aiming to create an integrated formation process: “Marble Carving”.

Duration and programme

Each course lasts for a period of one week and consists in 4 hours lessons a day for 6 days (from Monday to Saturday) in the teacher’s presence.
The lessons will be held in the mornings, except for other programme agreed with the tutor.
Students may also work in the afternoon to continue their works independently (that is included in our educating plan offer).

Jorge Romeo

Jorge Romeo was born in Temperley (Buenos Aires) in 1949. He studied Sculpture and became professor at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “P. Pueyrredon”. In 1979 won the scolarship “Tecniche di lavorazione della Pietra e del Marmo” by Ministero degli Affari Esteri-Roma and left forever Argentina to live permanently in Italy. He work since 1980 in his Studio in Carrara and live in Massa.

Roberto Bricalli

Roberto Bricalli was born in Talamona (Sondrio, Italy) in 1959. He studied Human Sciences and then he started working for some workshops in Carrara. His works are in public and private collections all around the world and his famous monumental sculptures lay in many italian and european cities. He live and work in Sondrio and Carrara.


Patrick Crombé

Patrick Crombé, was born in Bruxelles (Belgium) in 1955. He grew up in a family of stonemasons and by the dad knew the marble quarries around Carrara. He studied Sculpture at Hogeschool Sint-Lukas (Bruxelles), and at Academy Rijksinstituut Hoger Kunstonderwijs in Bruxelles too, and since 1981 worked for Studio Nicoli (Carrara). He won in 2006 the lauréat intégration sculpture O.C.M.W. Merchtem, Belgium. Since 1983 he is professor of Sculpture at Accademy of Leeuw-St-Pierre.

What we provide in our base package

  • Weekly course of 24 hours, in the presence of a professional marble sculptor teacher, with the possibility for each participant to develop the works independently in the afternoons
  • Marble block (30x30x30 cm o 40x20x20 cm)
  • Electricity and compressed air in covered working space
  • Help in the delivery organisation (transport/packaging) of the manufacts
  • Certificate of attendance
  • Buffet at the end of the course

Optional services

  • Rent or buy of a complete kit for working (step-shape chisels, chisels, hammers, safety shoes, protective glasses, gloves for working)
  • Packaging in crate with delivery at home of the work realised during the sculpture course
  • Rent of the working space in the week following to the stage

Accomodation and breakfast

The participants to the Sculpture Course may have accommodation few metres away from the workshop and at 100 mt. from the sea, at IL MARLO suite & breakfast, same property of A.M.A.
IL MARLO offers double bedrooms (also for single use) and small apartments with kitchen coin, each one may lodge till four people.

Supplementary activities for the formation process “Marble Sculpting”

In agreement with attested guides, A.M.A. offers some guided visits, in addition to the “Marble Sculpting” formation process, only for the participants.
The visits aims to give each participants a completed experience of the industry which for centuries has distinguished Carrara in all over the world:
From the marble extraction to the contemplation of some of the classical and modern sculpture masterpieces offered by the Tuscany region.
A.M.A. suggests the participants to keep the chance to do the experience, indicating their concurrence to the following guided visits form the registration to the Sculpting Course:

  • Visit to Carrara Quarry Marble
  • Visit to Carrara town – the streets of the Marble
  • Visit to Piazza dei Miracoli (Pisa)
  • Visit to Florence

Safe equipment

Students are asked to provide themselves to the safe equipment . Each participant should have a personal insurance for the accidents, and should wear protective glasses, gloves for working and safety shoes, conform to current regulations.
The equipment may be of the student’s property or it may be provided by the A.M.A. studio.
